It is a very useful information for all the Android users that the Cybersecurity Agency had warned all the Android users that a new banking virus called "EventBot" is spreading. It is a mobile network software application that hides on your Mobile and steals data information from banking and other financial apps. It also get control on the victims device and it can read PIN. All the Android users need to know about EventBot.
What does it do:
According to CERT-In (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team), it is a mobile banking trojan and information stealer that abuses Android in-built acessibility features to steal user data from financial applications, it also can read all your SMS and intercepts SMS messages allowing malware to bypass two factor authentication.
What are the apps it targets:
CERT-In had informed that EventBot targets over 200 different app including banking apps, money transfer services , Cryptocurrency wallet and other financial apps.
Most of these apps are based in the US and Europe region. But, beware some services may affect Indian users also.
Name of the apps targeted:
According to CERT-In, EventBot is mostly targeting the financial apps like Paypal Business, Revolut, Barclays, Unicredit, Capital One UK, HSBC UK, Transfer Wise, Coinbase, Pay Safe Card etc.
This banking virus is not available on Google Playstore yet.
According to CERT-In, the banking virus uses several icons to show as legitimate apps such as Microsoft Word, Adobe Flash etc. And using third-party apps downloading sites to infiltrate into victim's device.
How users can protect themselve from this banking virus:
CERT-In had told that users to never download and install any app from third-party websites as well as any other untrusted sources. Before downloading any applications, always check the developer name, users reviews, numbers of download and additional information.
