A petition was filed in the Supreme Court recently regarding the ban on ZOOM Video Conferencing App. In the hearing of the case, the court has sought a reply from the central government in 4 weeks, as well as the response has been called to US-Based ZOOM Video Communication. The petition filed in the court said that the ZOOM App is a threat to national security and can lead to increase cyber attack and cyber crime in India. ZOOM also admitted that the data has been leaked from their platform, so far the data of millions of Indians has been leaked. But, ZOOM App is still awaiting for ban in India.
Lakhs of cases are pending in Supreme Court.
However, the question is whether the Supreme Court is the only way to ban any App and why there is no Agency to Investigate this kind of Application before launch in India. In India, usually when an app becomes quite popular, after which questions arises about its privacy , then the case reaches from High Court to Supreme Court where there are already millions of cases which are awaiting for Justice for many years. Once the former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court has become emotional and expressed concern over the pending case in the Courts.
Court is the only way to ban App.
In November last year, Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prashad released a report according to which about 59,867 cases are pending in Supreme court of India.
After getting popular, Questions raised about the security of the ZOOM App. ZOOM video conferencing App has become the most used app During this Lock-Down. Indian are mostly using this ZOOM App. Almost 13.1 million people have downloaded ZOOM App in April this year. In India, questions about its security raised only after it has become increasingly popular in Lock-Down. Seeing the danger of data security, the government also advised not to download this app. A report by Bloomberg claimed that data of more than 5 Lakh ZOOM App users was leaked and sold for less than 1 Rupees each. Similarly, questions have also raised about the security of Tik Tok and have raised the demand for ban of Tik Tok in India.
Millions of Privacy Violation Apps exist in India.
There are millions of Privacy violating apps exist in India. Google recently removed about 800 Creepware Apps from PlayStore, Which spies suspected smartphone users. According to the report in Google PlayStore there are almost 1100 Creepware Apps. And they removed 813 dangerous Apps from Google PlayStore.
